Chaotic Cookery! - From Someone Else's Table: Blueberry Coffee Cake

LET THEM EAT CAKE!!!  Some days you just need something sweet and tasty to get you through! This might fit the bill!  I'm an optimist.  I have hope.  My blueberries will flower and produce again in a few months....American "carnage", "rust", "tombstones"....Yada yada yada, be damned!  And, hey!  If I can believe in HOPE (and blueberries!!!) you can, too!!! ENJOY!!

I really like blueberries and especially enjoy growing our own...

In fact, this year I had so many that I was able to freeze some....and made this...

Blueberry Coffee Cake

I am really not certain where this recipe came from.  Maybe from a book about writing...oddly enough, that I read once???  By Elizabeth Berg, maybe???  Anyhow, it is yummy...

1 c sugar     1 T baking powder     1/2 t soda     1/2 t salt     2 3/4 c flour
3 eggs, beaten     1/2 c sour cream     1/2 c milk     1 c melted butter
1 t vanilla     3 c blueberries

Topping:  1/2 c sugar     1/4 c flour     14 c butter     1 t cinnamon     Dash salt - Combine these ingredients with a fork or pastry cutter to make a crumble.

Mix wet ingredients.  Mix dry.  Mix together.  Place in greased 9 X 13 inch baking dish.  Sprinkle on blueberries.  Sprinkle on topping.  Back at 350 for about 50 minutes, or until knife comes out clean.

Enjoy a coffee break or English tea time - From Someone Else's Table - c

  1. Hi Celeste, I have been reading your blog for a while now and I just wanted to let you know how much I admire you and your family. I too have this horrible disease in my life. Many days feel so normal I forget cancer has affected us. Husband started an adjuvant trial with atezolizumab in November for high risk resected bladder cancer. I am close in age to you and too have college age daughters. He is 5 months since surgery and 3 since starting the immune trial. I worry everyday about our future. I can honestly say I find your post so honest and inspirational. You truly are an inspiration to many. I would love to share my story. I see you recently visited the city I live in. I hope you really enjoyed it. As a fellow foodie - Vancouver is top notch. Take care - Tonia (toniastefan@gmail.com)

    1. Hi Tonia, Thanks for your sweet words. I have a dear friend who contacted me through this blog and is dealing with bladder cancer and is on nivo via a trial. He was excited when atezo was approved for use....your husband's trial will provide much needed info for folks in need of adjuvant treatment. He is a great rattie!!! As you may have already seen, I've posted several articles about atezo and its use with melanoma. Hang in there. Sometimes I think cancer is harder on those who love us than on those of us who have it. I wish you and your husband my very best.
      PS Vancouver was WONDERFUL!!!!

    2. Hi Les, thanks so much for taking the time to reply! It means a lot. There really isn't much information out there on adjuvant immunotherapy trials. I have a question about relapse - how early on did participants on your trial relapse for those that did. By the first 3 months? I can't seem to find out much from Roche/Genentech. Thanks so much! Tonia

    3. You have to keep in mind that atezo and nivo are different meds...by different companies, and in this case being used in different diseases. I have meticulously posted results from my trial, responses and relapses and deaths from my study, at every office visit I have ever had on this blog, from 2010 to now. It is very easy to use the search bubble at the top left to find these posts. I can, however, direct you to these:
This is from the published paper on my study: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/12/cest-moi-results-from-33-raties-in-my.html

And this most recent post from my last doctor visit: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2016/11/udate-on-me-and-my-rattiesfrom-my-2-12.html

      Hope that helps.
